6 first verses of Voluspå, melody, and singing: Jazmin Falk

A response to technological and second home developments in rural Norway.

The moving images are made in World Creator and Unreal Engine The soundtrack is the first six verses of the old Norse creation tale Voluspå. Vǫluspá ‘Prophecy of the Seeress’; reconstructed Old Norse, is the first and best-known poem of the Poetic Edda. It tells the story of the creation of the world and its coming end, related to the audience by a völva addressing Odin.

Jazmin Falk has kindly sung it for me, like a lullaby.
In front are glazed (with tin and copper) ceramic mountains and some 3D-printed buttons. It all rests on a large cushion made of fake leather.

Chapter 5 English translation:

The sun, the sister | of the moon, from the south
Her right hand cast | over heaven's rim;
No knowledge she had | where her home should be,
The moon knew not | what might was his,
The stars knew not | where their stations were.

Norwegian:
Sol kom sunnan,
syster åt månen
slo høgre handi
um himmelhestar.
Sol ikkje visste
kvar salar ho åtte,
Måne ei visste
kvar makt han åtte.
(Stjernur ei visste,
kvar stader dei åtte).
